Pendulums are traditionally used for dowsing - asking yes/no questions - as well as in meditation, chakra work and finding objects. They are held by the chain so the weighted point can swing freely.
Hold the chain between finger and thumb, let the pendulum hang still, and establish which swing direction means yes and no for you. Then ask simple questions and observe the movement.
Choose a stone you feel drawn to - many people start with clear quartz or amethyst. A well-balanced pendulum matters more than the stone type.

Common cleansing methods include moonlight, resting on selenite, sound and smoke. Avoid water for soft or porous stones - selenite especially should never get wet.
